A quiet afternoon in Dothan turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when 39-year-old Brittney Alise Henderson was fatally shot on the back porch of her home in what authorities are calling a โ€œterrible act of violence.โ€

Dothan Police Chief William Benny confirmed that officers were dispatched to the 400 block of East Spring Street shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday following reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Henderson deceased, suffering from a single gunshot wound.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Vincent Phillips, is a neighbor of Hendersonโ€™s. According to Chief Benny, Phillips and Henderson only knew each other in passing. The preliminary investigation revealed that Phillips approached Henderson while she was sitting on her porch, and after a brief interaction, he pulled a firearm, aimed it at her, and fired a single fatal shot.

Phillips fled the scene before law enforcement arrived but was later apprehended and is now in custody. He has been charged with capital murder and is currently being held without bond in the Houston County Jail.

โ€œAt this point, there are several avenues of investigation that need to take place,โ€ Chief Benny said. โ€œIn the coming days, investigators will continue to pursue leads in determining the motivation for this terrible act of violence.โ€

The Dothan Police Department has pledged a thorough and diligent investigation to uncover all circumstances surrounding the killing. Chief Benny emphasized the departmentโ€™s commitment: โ€œInvestigators will work tirelessly to determine all the circumstances surrounding this crime.โ€

The community is mourning the sudden loss of Brittney Henderson, a woman remembered for her warmth and peaceful presence. Her family, friends, and neighbors are devastated by the senseless nature of the crime.

โ€œOur thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Brittney Henderson as they grieve this devastating loss,โ€ said Chief Benny.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have additional information about the incident to contact the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3632 or 334-793-0215.

As Dothan comes to terms with this tragedy, many hope that justice for Brittney Henderson will be served, and that her family will find peace in the midst of their sorrow.
